Boat Rental on Lake Lewisville — Captained Vessels for Every Occasion

Renting a boat on Lake Lewisville comes down to one choice: do you want to run it yourself, or do you want a captain to handle everything while your group focuses on the occasion?

Boat rental on Lake Lewisville is available through Mutineers Charter Services, a veteran-owned charter company with four vessels and USCG-licensed captains. Every rental is captained — your group enjoys the water while our crew handles navigation, safety, and lake logistics. We serve guests from across the DFW metro, launching from Arrowhead Park on Lake Lewisville in Hickory Creek, TX.

We run over 200 charters per season across parties, corporate events, weddings, and sunset cruises. Most weekend dates book 2–3 weeks in advance during peak season (May–September). Weekday charters offer more flexibility and lower rates.

Captained Charter vs Self-Drive Rental

Every Mutineers boat rental is captained. A USCG-licensed professional operates the vessel while your group focuses entirely on the experience — no navigation worries, no anchoring stress, and no one has to skip the drinks to be the designated driver. On a captained charter, you step aboard, the captain handles the lake, and your group celebrates.

Captained Charter vs Self-Drive Rental

Choose a captained charter when:

  • Your group includes alcohol (captain stays sober — Texas BWI law compliance)
  • No one in the group has boating experience
  • You want zero responsibility for navigation, anchoring, and safety
  • You're hosting an event and want turnkey logistics — from decoration setup to custom routes

Charter time includes loading and unloading of the vessel — plan your boarding and departure within your reserved window.

Self-drive rentals (offered by other operators, not Mutineers)

require at least one designated operator with a Texas boater education card (mandatory for anyone born after September 1, 1993). Self-drive rentals are typically limited to smaller pontoons (20–24 ft), come with a security deposit and damage liability, and restrict your group to a single inexperienced operator on a busy lake.

For a deeper comparison, see "Captained vs self-drive" in our compare boat types in our guide.

Choosing a Licensed Charter on Lake Lewisville

Bachelor Bachelorette Party Pricing

Not every boat offering charters on Lake Lewisville is legally authorized to do so. Unlicensed operators may offer lower prices, but they are not regulated or inspected by the Coast Guard Auxiliary or Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. These vessels may lack proper safety equipment, commercial insurance, and operator licensing. Incidents involving injuries and fatalities on unregulated charter vessels have been documented on Texas lakes.

What to verify before booking any charter:

  • USCG license: The captain should hold a current U.S. Coast Guard license appropriate for the vessel size and passenger count
  • Commercial insurance: Licensed charters carry commercial liability coverage — ask for proof
  • TPWD safety inspection: Texas Parks and Wildlife conducts inspections on commercial vessels
  • Named, registered vessels: Legitimate operators use documented, registered boats with visible identification

Mutineers Charter Services is USCG-licensed, TPWD safety-inspected, commercially insured, and veteran-owned. Captain Mitch holds a USCG Master Captain license with 30+ years of maritime experience. Every vessel in our fleet is named, registered, and maintained to Coast Guard standards.

What Every Boat Rental Includes

Included in every Mutineers charter — no add-on fees:

  • USCG-licensed captain and crew — no boating experience needed from your group
  • All Coast Guard–required safety equipment (standard-size life jackets for every guest, fire extinguisher, first aid kit, throwable flotation device)
  • Premium Bluetooth sound system — connect your phone and control the playlist
  • Swim deck access on all four vessels with anchor-and-swim capability in sheltered coves
  • Water toys: lily pads, swim noodles, and whale tails. Paddle boards may be available (availability varies by vessel and date). Gas grills available on board.
  • Flexible itinerary — open lake cruising, Party Cove, scenic shorelines, or a fully custom route

Bring your own:

  • Food and drinks — BYOB beer, wine, and champagne for guests 21+. Restrictions apply: no red drinks (red wine, fruit punch, etc.), no dishes containing rice, no high heels on deck
  • Ice and coolers — Mutineers does not provide ice or towels; bring your own
  • Sunscreen, towels, and swimwear
  • Decorations for celebrations — 10-minute dock load time, crew assists with setup during the charter. All decorations must be removable (no nails, staples, or permanent adhesives)

Boat Rental Pricing Overview

Bachelor Bachelorette Party Pricing

Boat rental pricing on Lake Lewisville depends on the vessel, time slot, and season. All Mutineers charters have a 4-hour minimum. The Delta (up to 8 guests) starts at $468 for a 4-hour off-season charter. The Stranger Danger (up to 24 guests) starts at $968 off-season. The Gypsy Danger (up to 50 guests) starts at $2,268 on weekdays.

Arrowhead Park in Hickory Creek is approximately 25 minutes from Dallas, 20 minutes from Plano, and 40 minutes from Fort Worth via I-35E. Lake Lewisville is the closest major lake to the Dallas metro — 29,500 acres with 233 miles of shoreline. Frequently Asked Questions — Boat Rental on Lake Lewisville

Mutineers operates four vessels: the Delta (up to 8 guests), the Stranger Danger (up to 24 guests), the Whiskey Danger (up to 30 guests), and the Gypsy Danger (up to 50 guests). For groups larger than 50, we coordinate multi-vessel charters so your entire party stays on the water together. See our luxury yacht fleet for full specs.

All Mutineers charters have a 4-hour minimum. Most groups book 4-hour sessions, which provide time for cruising to a scenic cove, anchoring for swimming, and celebrating aboard. Full-day charters are available and require a 10-hour contract minimum.

Mutineers exclusively offers captained charters. All vessels are operated by USCG-licensed captains. If you specifically want a self-drive rental, other operators on Lake Lewisville offer smaller pontoons — but you'll need a Texas boater education card and a designated sober operator. Read our Lake Lewisville Boating Guide for a full comparison.

Lake Lewisville is a well-maintained reservoir managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers with regular water quality monitoring and navigation aids. Mutineers vessels carry all Coast Guard–required safety equipment and are captained by a USCG Master Captain with First Aid and CPR certifications. Captain operates sober at all times — zero exceptions.

Charters proceed if water conditions are safe — Texas weather is unpredictable, and rain and sunshine can alternate throughout a single day. Foul weather is an understood risk of outdoor water experiences. Unless the Coast Guard issues an advisory or prohibits watercraft, any weather cancellation refund requires owner approval. If the owner cancels due to unsafe conditions and the guest also wants to cancel day-of (approved by the Fleet Commander), a minimum service fee applies with an 80% refund offered or a rescheduled date. Prep work and staff costs justify the service fee. Rescheduling is attempted within reason, but boats are typically booked 3–4 weeks out on weekends.

Yes. BYOB beer, wine, and champagne are welcome aboard for guests 21+. The captain operates sober at all times. Restrictions apply: no red drinks (red wine, fruit punch, etc.), no dishes containing rice, and no high heels on deck — these protect vessel surfaces. Mutineers does not provide ice or towels; bring your own cooler and supplies. We provide recommendations for trusted local catering vendors — see our preferred vendors page for details.

At Mutineers, ‘boat rental' and ‘yacht charter' describe the same service — a captained luxury vessel with crew, safety equipment, and full amenities. We use both terms because guests search for both. Whether you call it a rental or a charter, you're getting a named yacht, a licensed captain, and a customizable itinerary on Lake Lewisville.

Absolutely. All four Mutineers vessels have swim deck access with a boarding ladder. Your captain anchors in one of Lake Lewisville’s sheltered coves where the water is calm and the bottom is sandy — your group jumps straight from the swim deck into the lake. Water toys including lily pads, swim noodles, and whale tails are available. Most 4-hour charters include at least one anchor-and-swim stop.

Weekend charters during peak season (May–September) book 2–3 weeks in advance. Holiday weekends (Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day) often fill a month out. Weekday dates have more availability, even during summer. Booking requires a 50% deposit (non-refundable) with the balance due 15 days prior to charter date. For the best selection, call (214) 277-9102 as soon as you have a tentative date. See charter pricing and packages for rate details.
